At St Barnabas, writing is an integral part of the curriculum. We aim to foster a strong motivation for writing by using a variety of high quality texts and the wider curriculum, to inspire purposeful and stimulating writing opportunities. We guide pupils to form their own authorial voice, assisting them to use writing as both a form of expression and communication.

We intend to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to become proficient, confident writers, who are able to write coherently and appropriately for a range of purposes and audiences. We want to ensure that pupils acquire a wide vocabulary and strong competency for accurate punctuation and grammar.

Children show compassion for others through consideration of their audience and tailoring their writing appropriately.

Children are encouraged to develop their own authorial voice, having the courage to share their ideas and writing with a range of audiences.

Children respect the inspirational work of a wide range of authors, to produce high quality work in a variety of writing genres and purposes.
