At St Barnabas C of E Primary School we believe that reading is an integral part of the school curriculum and a fundamental life skill that impacts on all learning.

We want every child to love reading and to want to learn to read for themselves. Therefore, we aim to inspire a true love of reading, whereby our children are enthusiastic and motivated readers who feel confident to be able to talk about books and authors.

We intend for our children to be inquisitive readers, provoking thought, leading to children who enjoy asking questions about the texts they are reading; allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of what they have read.

Children are able recognise reading is a journey and can commit to it as a problem solving process which will unlock the joy of reading forever.

Children are encouraged to become successful readers, developing the skills and knowledge of reading so they can confidently and joyfully embrace our curriculum in all its fullness.

Children see books as windows and mirrors of the world, where they see themselves and others authentically reflected in text and experience the world through the pages of a book.
